Recommendations

Here be a few recommendations for media sources that i think help get folks in the mood for, and get an impression of, the game setting of Feudal Legacy: Legends of IxKenDren.

the Princess Bride

Fun and witty, the Princess Bride is a classic for the swashbuckling adventure romance type.

LadyHawke

Ladyhawke, is one of my favorites, you have to forgive the soundtrack, and the costumes, but it is totally worth it. Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer shine in this tale of cursed lovers.

Conan

Conan! What else need to be said. He is the unrivalled king of sword and sorcery, and James Earl Jones as Tulsa Doom is fantastic as well.

Big Trouble in Little China

Its all in the reflexes!

Guantlet

I couldn’t tell you how many of my quarters this machine ate up of mine over the years. It was one of my favorites as a kid.

Thundarr the Barbarian

Without a doubt, the greatest Saturday morning cartoon of them all.

Shaolin Rescuers

When I was very young someone once asked me what I wanted to be when i grew up, and without missing a beat i told them, “the bad guy in a kung-fu movie.”

Beowulf

Beowulf is a fantastic tale of sword and sorcery, gritty and dark, its excellent RPG fuel.

Legend

If you can get past the fact that Tom Cruise is in it, Legend is fantastic. Tim Curry is unbelievably amazing as Darkness, and Mia Sara is spectacular.

the Hobbit

the Lord of the Rings

Skyrim

Skyrim is a fantastic game, from a long line of fantastic games. It also functions in a way very similar to Feudal Legacy. I’ve probably spent whole years of my life playing these games.

Willow

Willow is a fantastic adventure full of sword and sorcery, I go back and rewatch it every few years.

the 13th Warrior

The 13th Warrior is one that went under the radar for the main stream, but I loved it. Its a fantastic dark and gritty adventure. Antonio Banderas is fantastic, and the cast is absolutely authentic

300

“This is Sparta!!”

13 Assassins

In the vain of great old samurai movies such as Seven Samurai, 13 Assassins is a slow burn that leads to an epic and seemingly endless final confrontation between the 13 heroes and an army of samurai villains.

Ice Pirates

Master of Monsters

This game is strange and weird and wonderful and was so much fun.

Erik the Viking

Legend of the Condor Heroes

Known as the Chinese Lord of the Rings, Legend of the Condor Heroes is a fantastical adventure thru a fantastical version of China, full of wild action and insane fight scenes, its like watching a kung-fu movie in your mind.

Jason and the Argonauts

The animatronics in this movie were fantastic.

Clash of the Titans

Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Blade

Game of Thrones (the Books)

Beastmaster

the Iliad and the Odyssey

Time Bandits

despite its wtf ending.

Kingdom of Heaven (the Director’s Cut)

Robin Hood

the Sword and the Sorcerer

the Last Unicorn

the Once and Future King

Or the Sword in the Stone as most of us know it.

a Record of a Lodoss War

Did we miss any? Is there one you think should be here and is not? What is on your list of movies, TV shows, novels, and short stories that get you in the mood for gaming?
